Mahirs
Foundation

Celebrating 10 years in 2024!

The Mahirs Foundation was set-up with its key objective being to raise money for local & lesser-known charities and social enterprises.

Since 2014, Mahirs Experience have donated food, gifts and raised thousands of pounds by ‘adopting’ a ‘good cause’ to support each year. The charities & good causes are chosen and voted for by our own team, and those we have ‘adopted’ include causes specialising in helping with domestic abuse, substance abuse, autism, breast cancer, mental health, problem gambling and homelessness (to a name but a few!).

Charities of the Year for 2024

Due to the global pandemic & lockdowns which interrupted in both 2021 & 2022, and instead of choosing and adopting just one good cause, for 2024 the team at Mahirs decided to try and help a number charities, social enterprises & community clubs.

On the menu this year is Love Brum, Unique Home for Girls and Sifa Fireside.

Charity of the Year for 2023

In 2023 we successfully completed a year-long initiative of weekly food donations to our ‘adopted’ good cause  – SIFA Fireside.

For 52 consecutive weeks, Team Mahirs Experience prepared a range of wholesome meals for the homeless and vulnerable, turning our family business into a source of compassion and community support.

Our journey of weekly food donations has been incredibly fulfilling and we hope we have made a positive impact on the lives of those in need, providing sustenance and support.

25 years in the catering game and even though he still can’t put his hand in a tandoori oven when trying to making naan bread, our CEO Harvir decided to jump in feet first instead!

Harvir decided to take up the challenge of becoming a Firewalker and to walk over hot coals to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

He was truly humbled about the great work that this amazing charity does, providing care, support, fun and laughter for children with life limiting or life threatening conditions.

We also chose to support Unique Home an orphanage in India for girls which looks after unwanted, unclaimed or orphan children whom society shuns.

Due to the global pandemic & lockdowns, very limited fundraising was achieved for Unique Home so we have added this great cause to chosen charities for 2024.

Instead of choosing and adopting just one good cause, for 2019 the team at Mahirs decided to try and help a number of charities, social enterprises & community clubs.

The Mahirs Foundation was approached by the Sikh Toy Appeal, a charity which provides toys and gifts for vulnerable & less fortunate children on special days such as birthdays and Christmas. The Mahirs Foundation donated chocolate eggs at Easter and brand new toys just before Xmas to the total value of £250.00.

As part our support for Birmingham City University’s Tiger Lab initiative, our former Charity of the Year Breaking the Silence, was drawn out of the hat (out of three great causes) and awarded £250.00.

As part our loyal and committed support of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and its current serving president Mr Saqib Bhatti, a donation for the sum of £250.00 was made to the President’s chosen charity of the year – Prostate Cancer UK.

As part of our continued support of the Barford Tigers Hockey Club, The Mahirs Foundation made a donation for the sum of £500.00 towards the Barford Tigers Ladies Hockey team.

Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer was established in 2000 by Veronica Kumeta and the late Sue Macmaster, after their friend Carol Knaggs was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Having raised money for Breast Cancer before the idea was to control where the money went, rather than giving it to national charities, so they contacted the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham and started working exclusively with them.
